Richardson at Double Digits in Iowa

9/11/07

Bill Richardson has been polling around double digits in Iowa for a while now but seems to have hit a road block. His average in June was 9.8% and has gone up just 2% to 11.8% in August. He is consistently going up but at a slow rate, so slow that he will still end up fourth behind the Top 3 of Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, and Barack Obama.

Month Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep
Richardson's Iowa Average 1.0 3.0 2.7 5.0 7.7 9.8 11.7 11.8 10.0

The Republican equivalent of Richardson is Mike Huckabee; and Huckabee is garnering about the same amount of support in Iowa lately. Huckabee's advantage is that there are no clear front runners in the Republican party and a second place finish seems far more feasible for Huckabee than it does for Richardson.

There are four more months left and Richardson clearly needs to get to 25%. We feel that voters will make a late shift to Richardson just as they did for Kerry & Edwards but I think the Democratic party at this stage wants to vote for a candidate that can win and right now that candidate seriously looks like John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama depending on what information you care about.

Hillary Clinton because of her money.

John Edwards because of his high favorable ratings and low unfavorable ratings.

Barack Obama because of his strong support among Independents.

Bill Richardson, as a Hispanic, cannot even be counted on to get the Hispanic vote. A couple of strong debate performances will be just what the doctor ordered for Richardson. He has looked shaky when talking about foreign policy so we suggest he stick to the basics to gain some confidence.

Who gets your vote in 2012?

 Barack Obama (BO)

 Mitt Romney (MR)
