Obama Should Have Declined Kerry's Endorsement1/14/08 This article is an opinion piece written by Undecided Democrat, Kris Lazaro, of California as part of the USAElectionPolls.com focus group program. As I wrote yesterday, I am involved with a non-profit group that teaches youth about leadership skills. In fact, I am doing a camp right now for the city of Commerce (interestingly enough, the same city that Hillary Clinton visited a few days ago). As we were packing up yesterday, we again had a discussion about all this talk about endorsements. Let me say this about this topic: endorsements are only as good to those who give them—I mean what good is an endorsement if it comes from a loser? Case in point—a few days ago, John Kerry gave his blessings to Senator Barack Obama. Perhaps this was a case of hatred towards the Clinton’s, or whatever it may be, but nonetheless, Kerry gave his support to Obama. Is this support warranted? This author does not believe so. Endorsements should come from winners, not losers—I mean who really wants to be endorsed by someone who lost an election? This author would rather decline such an offer. Speaking of endorsements, do they really matter? What if a voter hated the endorser of a current candidate? Would that necessarily change such a voter’s mind about the quality of the current candidate? People who endorse should think twice about who they are backing and why… On a separate note, I feel Clinton is gaining great momentum. With her win in New Hampshire this past week, I feel she will carry this energy into the next primaries. The next primary will be held on January 15th, 2008, although the results for the Democratic ticket will not be valid. The states of Nevada and South Carolina, though, will be valid for both parties, as this will be next in line on January 19th, 2008. This will surely be an interesting next couple of days… 22 days left until Super Tuesday! [an error occurred while processing this directive] |
