Fifty-nine percent (59%) of Tennessee voters say that finding new sources of energy is more important than reducing the amount of energy Americans consume. Thirty-one percent (31%) disagree and say reducing consumption is the higher priority. These figures are similar to the national average. Fifty-seven percent (57%) in Tennessee say the U.S. and its allies are winning the War on Terror. That�s a bit more optimistic than the nation-at-large. Nationally, however, confidence is at the highest levels of the past four years. Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen earns good or excellent ratings from 52% of Tennessee voters, while 10% think he is doing a poor job. Based on his strength among Independents, Senator John McCain continues to enjoy a double-digit lead over Barack Obama in Tennessee. McCain leads Obama by 51 to 36 percent, compared to 53 to 36 percent last March. John McCain's favorable to unfavorable rating today in Tennessee is 59 to 33 percent, compared to 59 to 34 percent last March. (George W. Bush's rating in the state is 48 percent favorable and 48 percent unfavorable.) Barack Obama has a net unfavorable rating of 42 percent favorable to 47 percent unfavorable, compared to 44 percent favorable and 49 percent unfavorable last March.
