American Voters Want A Free Market With Government Regulation12/29/08 Tags: US Economy From Rasmussen Reports
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) Americans do not know or understand, or entirely want, a free market. According to a new Rasmussent telephone survey, a whopping 70% say a free market is better than one controlled by the federal government. But, in the same poll, 52% say there should be more government regulation. What? Obviously, those polled do not understand that in a free market there is no government oversight. In a true capitalist society, government has no role in business and vice versa. Government's role in this scenario is simply to protect its citizens from domestic and international events and the like. To this author, though, government should be invovlved in national economy. This means simply that government should have some power in the regulation of businesses, otherwise corporate greed (like the one we are seeing now) will take over, and the rest of the country will suffer economically. The pure free market is inherently flawed, therefore, we need limited government intervention.
