Americans Not Afraid Of Layoffs2/10/09 Tags: Economy From Gallup (conducted: 1/30-2/1/09)
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) In an interesting poll conducted by Gallup last week, it found that 68% of those polled are not afraid of being layoffed. This is a stark contrast compared to all the negative press the economy is getting from the media in the past few months. Perhaps those polled were in a position to find new jobs quickly, or simply, that the media has blown this economic downturn out of proportion. The truth may lie somewhere in the middle. The mass hysteria that our economy is crumbling and that people are losing their jobs left and right is simply an oversimplification of a problem. It is true that people are losing their jobs, but that doesn't mean EVERYBODY is losing their jobs. This poll may also be biased, in that the pollsters may have interviewed those who they felt would answer in a manner that would please them. In the end, one must be careful in analyzing data and be mindful who is conducting the poll and make a judgment thereafter.
