» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat)

As banks continue to struggle in these tough economic times, the question of nationalization of such entities comes up. Should the federal government take over these ailing banks in the hopes of salvaging their losses?

This is a tough question, but one that needs to be answered. To this author, the answer is no. This country is still technically a free market economy and if our banks start to become nationalized, then what sector is next?

This is not a fear of socialism, but the avoidance of loss of economic freedom. THe federal government should only take over a bank in dire circumstances, and in such cases it should only be temporary.

We all need to remember the principles of a free market, and not panic at the first signs of trouble, for one day it will again fix itself.
