» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat)

A majority of Americans polled recently said that cutting taxes will help the economy. While this author does not believe this idea wholesale, lowering the taxes on the middle and lower class may help those classes and thus help the overall economy.

The idea of cutting taxes in light of spending is simply ludicrous. George W. Bush showed exactly what can happen when taxes are reduced and spending is increased. It is the hope of this author that the current President does not go too far with cutting taxes, for his current economic stimulus plan requires an ample treasury coffer.

We, as citizens of a country, are responsible for paying taxes to help pay for vital government and social services. Those who oppose paying taxes should realize that we are all in this country together. without taxes such services as the police department, public safety, sanitation, public education, national defense, and the like will all be nonexistent.
