In a recent Gallup poll of who Americans thought was the greatest president in history, there was a clear cut choice between Republicans and Democrats. Overall, Reagan received the most votes.

The overwhelming favorite for Republicans was Ronald Reagan, while the Democrats favored John F. Kennedy as their man.

Interestingly, there was great bi-partisan support for Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday was yesterday; he ranked 2nd for both political parties.

This author somewhat agrees with the findings, but feels that this poll is somewhat unscientific, in that people merely gave their gut opinion of our past presidents, without basing their decision on how the country fared after their departures from office.
