From Rasmussen (conducted: 4/15-16/09)

  • 56% say the Mexican drug producers are to blame for the violence
  • 30% say Us drug users are to blame for the violence in Mexico
  • 14% are not sure

As violence increases south of the border in Mexico, Rasmussen conducted a new poll asking people who to blame for the violence in that country. Surprisingly, 56% say it is the drug producer's onus, but this author disagrees.

It is the typical illegal drug user in the US that is to blame for all this violence in Mexico. If the demand from this country is not present, drug dealers and the drug cartels would not be attacking each other. We have created the demand, and therefore, the violence in Mexico.

The only way we can curb this violence is to either legalize drugs here in the US (and thus lower the demand for drugs elsewhere), or mobilize troops to Mexico and help their government quell the violence.

The President should address this issues, lest the violence seeps across the border and unto our doorsteps.
