The Role Of Government And Its Influence3/6/09 Tags: General From Rasmussen Reports (conducted: 3/3-4/09)
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) In a recent commentary on a certain political website, a UC Berkeley professor stated that "the moral mission of government is simple: no one can earn a living in America or live an American life without protection and empowerment by the government". This statement is a rather strong one and this author feels that it might border on the philosophy of complete dependence on the government. While government should provide for its people, it should not be the sole protector and provider of its citizenry. People also need to have initiative and not just rely on government to help them in all of their problems. Government intervention should be necessary if needed, but should not be the first option in a citizen's daily life. An American life is as such because it is the combination of multiple ideologies. Lakoff, while he has a point, needs to be careful of generalization and alienating himself as an outsider looking in. Check Gmail, Facebook, and IM simultaneously with Digsby.
